We roll good – We strive to elevate new Asian American-style sushi
Founder Youngnam Kwon opened the first Mari Mari in Philadelphia in 2020. He started learning about Japanese cuisine in the food industry in 2006 and moved to New York in 2013 to experience a bigger food market. While experiencing a newer and greater food market in the US the idea of sushi with an easier and more casual image came to mind, and after a long time of research and work in New York City, Mari Mari was born.
You may be wondering, “What does Mari mean?”
The meaning of Mari is “roll” in Korean. In Korea, there is a food called “Kimbap” that uses seaweed nori, rice, and various ingredients that are similar to Japanese sushi. As a Korean who has studied Japanese food for a long time, he wanted to create and develop the category of new Asian American-style sushi through this Mari Mari.
